Nothing's been the same since then.
Sweet memories and melodies, reminders of you from the weekend.
The sounds of crushed tin and broken glass fill the air.
My ambition and adrenaline: please take me back there.
I heard the needle drop on the record again.
Same song from last week.
Over and over in my head.
I watched you reach over to light a cigarette.
The dry heat from the summer fades away at sunset.
Shimmering trees blowing in the wind at dusk.
Every city light: glowing just for us.
I heard the needle drop on the record again.
Same song from last week.
Over and over in my head.
I heard the needle tattooing lines beneath my skin.
Same sound from last week.
Over and over again.
Nightly distractions only last so long.
This cold December weather just keeps dragging on.
Like nails on a chalkboard, sending shivers through the cracks.
Three feet of snow outside and the bitter wind at my back.
I heard the needle over and over again.

Past Due

Woke up to a knock on my door.
What a surprise! It's the scumbag landlord.
He said it's time to pay up, rent was due on the fourth.
Another day I'm broke as fuck, another day I'm fucking poor.
And this is what they said to me:
"You've got to follow the rules, take out a loan and complete your time in school. There's good jobs, good money don't be a fucking fool."
But now it's said and done, and your rent is past due.
You're past due.
With a buck fifty in my checking account, it's not even enough to buy another round.
I'm sick of living life this way, day to day from pay to pay.
Three years of education: Down the drain.
And this is what they told me:
"You've got some bills to pay unless you want to watch the bank steal your house away. Between debt and the fancy shit you bought into---now fucking up your life because you forgot to follow the rules, you submitted your time, completed your tenure in school. Good jobs? Good money? Now you're feeling like a fucking fool because you're past due.

Open Arms

I want you to hold fast for me because you know I'd do the same for you.
I'm yearning so far and wide, just to see you smile.
In the moment that you close your eyes, just know I'll be the one who's there by your side.
If I'm the last thing to cross your mind, please welcome me with open arms tonight.
Do you ever stop to wonder about the spark you ignite?
A warm glow from the fireplace on these freezing cold winter nights.
Burning slowly and steady now, the flame flickering inside.
And my desire for you is one that can't be denied.
In the moment that you close your eyes, just know I'll be the one who's there by your side.
If I'm the last thing to cross your mind, please welcome me with open arms tonight.
And when it all came crashing down for you, you know it did for me too but that all changed the day I met you.
The day I met you...
